Paper Weight

Paper, for all intents and purposes, can be divided into two basic weight categories: text weight and card stock. That is, paper can generally be categorized as either 1) text weight, relatively light weight paper (such as stationery, copy paper, church bulletins) or, 2) card stock, relatively heavier, not-so-easy-to-fold paper (such as index cards, raffle tickets, most greeting cards, business cards and the stuff of which presentation folders with inside pockets is made).

Following are examples of paper weights and types for some of the items that we always have in stock and ready to ship:

Paper Texture

In addition to what is commonly considered "paper", there also exists a myriad of textures including thermal, foiled, metallic, security, onion skin, and the list goes on. Texture can - basically - be categorized as smooth, glossy or parchment, each of which includes its own variations. The importance of texture lies in the paper's ultimate end use.

Smooth - Most of what is commonly referred to as paper falls in the smooth category. Copy paper, stationery, index cards, and, by way of example, raffle tickets, can be considered smooth. As the name suggests, the surface of smooth paper is relatively uniform and can be used with both inkjet and laser printers. Smooth paper is not as "dense" as glossy paper.

Glossy - Glossy paper is actually paper that is chemically coated (either on one or both sides) so that the surface has very little to no texture, which is why it appears "shiny". Use of glossy paper with inkjet printers should be avoided because of the potential for smearing. Use of glossy paper with laser printers, however, provides a very crisp image. Glossy paper - available in both text weight and card stock - is available in white.

Parchment - Five hundred years ago, parchment was made from calfskin or sheepskin. Today, "parchment" is commonly a rougher surface paper with fiber content added to give the appearance of calfskin or sheepskin. Today's parchment is available in both text weight and card stock, and in different shades and colors.

Parchment is mentioned here specifically because PerforatedPaperOnline perforates large quantities of both parchment text and card weights.
